We are at $9,655.03 out of our $10k goal! Just a few more donations will get us there!

  • We have received re-approval from the city council of the variance that was received by the previous owners to build the existing deck.

  • We have gotten a material cost estimate for our deck plan. It is likely no surprise to anyone that $10k isn't going to cover the whole cost of materials and labor. It may be almost double that. We are going to look at various loan options to help us complete this project.

  • Next steps are to procure loan funding and request bids from contractors.

Thank you all for your support of this project!

Why are we building a new deck?

When COVID-19 hit, the City of Granite Falls helped us a great deal by allowing us to rope off a section of the public parking lot behind our building for an outdoor patio. COVID is likely to change people's dining and entertainment habits long-term. As great a partner as the city has been, that is not a permanent solution to our need for a larger outdoor space for seating.

We currently have a fabulous location overlooking the Minnesota River, but the deck was constructed by a previous business occupant and was not designed for restaurant seating. The gazebo is nice, but is very limiting in how we are able to utilize the space. We are hoping to expand the deck to allow us to put multiple dining tables out, as well as rail seating that has premium views of the river.

Are you a current member-owner of Bluenose, a customer, a supporter of cooperatives, or a believer in small town communities and the love local movement? We'd love your support, in any amount, to help us expand our outdoor space and remain a viable community space for many years to come!
